THE ORGANIZATION AND STRUCTURE OF AN ACADEMIC LIBRARY FOR COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT : UNIVERSITY OF JOS EXPERIENCE
Abstract
Library administrators face financial constraints, leading to staff and material cuts, prompting a reconsideration of their organizational approaches. A new approach, "Systems analysis," involves a logical review and modification of activities. This involves focusing on the central purpose of the agency and following a hierarchy of goals and objectives. Jos University Library is implementing organizational changes to acquire a relevant collection and improve service. Staff are allocated according to their capabilities, ensuring job satisfaction and participation. Future technology advancements may aid coinformation sources through shared computer networks, but these will not affect collection development.
