About the Journal

  • Nigerbiblios is the official journal of the National Library of Nigeria (NLN). The journal is to serve as a major platform for publishing high quality and original research in the field of Librarianship.
  • It is a peer-reviewed, bi-annual publication.

 History

  • Nigerbiblios has a long tradition: its back issues go far back to 1976 as the in-house journal of the National Library of Nigeria published in four issues of January, April, July and October. Its full title in its inception is Nigerbiblios: House journal of the National Library of Nigeria. It served to document the institution’s activities, reports with contribution exclusively from the NLN staff.
  • By 1980, the NLN management in the 1980 editorial write-up (volume 5, Nos 1& 2) decided to raise its status to a national communication journal. This move was necessitated as a result of an observed gap and was expected to serve as stimulus to writing and communication so that international librarianship can have increased access to Nigerian Librarianship. From 1980 therefore with its title to be just Nigerbiblios, Nigerbiblios became a professional journal, articulating and reporting on developments and services in the field of librarianship and information science in Nigeria.
  • The 60th anniversary of NLN has been celebrated in its most recent special issue of Volume 34 Number 2 marking a special commemorative edition.
