ROLE OF A UNIVERSITY LIBRARY IN FACILITATING RESEARCH: SOME NIGERIAN EXAMPLES

Abstract

The paper discusses the various roles which a University Library can play in order to facilitate research activities. These are outlined to include functional basic Library services; teaching the use of library and information resources; bibliographic activities; documentation and information services; reprography and translation services; and endeavouring to understand the nature of research process. It concludes that research and library operations being essentially information activities, should be designed to support each other.
