Abstract

One-page almanacs, the simplest form of almanacs, are popular in Nigeria and serve various purposes. Originating in the early 1930s, they evolved from calendars with little or no accompanying content. Despite legal deposit laws requiring publishers to deposit copies with designated libraries, they have not been complying. The university of Ife Library is building up a collection of posters, suggesting public libraries in Nigeria could work on collecting one-page almanacs for information.
