The Act of Queen Anne of England in 1709-10 protected authors' rights by granting exclusive 14-year printing rights. European countries followed suit with varying copyright laws, including the Berne Convention in 1887, the Universal Copyright Convention in 1955, and the Copyright Act in 1970
