THE CENTRAL BANK RESEARCH LIBRARY
Abstract
The Central Bank of Nigeria Research Library, established in 1961, has grown significantly over the years, now occupying 6,500 square feet and housing around 43,000 volumes. Its collection includes books, pamphlets, government documents, specialized reports, theses, micro text documents, and back runs of periodicals. The library has a sitting capacity of 45 people and a study carrel accommodating 7 research staff. The library's purpose is to provide necessary information and literature to enable the Research Department to carry out its research program, assist the Bank in performing its role for the purpose of the Act, and provide adequate sources of information and reading materials for the Bank staff. The library is one of the fourteen offices of the Research Department, headed by a Chief Librarian, and is organized into four sections: Research, Library, and Research Department. The library's size and nature make it the only one of its kind in any public institution outside universities in Nigeria.
