SHORT COURSE PROVISION FOR LIBRARY PERSONNEL IN NIGERIA
Abstract
Employees are crucial for any organization as they provide continuous services. Human Resource Development (HRD) has grown exponentially in Nigeria, with seminars, conferences, workshops, and short courses being offered by government agencies and private practitioners. In-service training has become a major means of offsetting problems created by work, such as high turn-over in non-professional cadres and a shortage of professionals. This paper examines the problems and preferences of libraries in providing short courses as in-service training and the prospects of cooperation to benefit poorly staffed libraries. Special libraries staff are in greater demand, but are not in a position to expand library services throughout the country.
