Abstract

National, unity and integration are essential for the survival of Nigeria as a nation. The use of education as an instrument for achieving national consciousness and unity has always been emphasized. However, the flagrant violation of the right to life of Nigerians by their fellow citizens in the name of tribal militia or ethnic groups, and religious fundamentalists has called into question the issue of national integration and security of lives and property. This paper focuses on National integration and security and how libraries can be used to transform the cultural differences into common traditions to be learned and cherished in the process of our national integration. The potential roles of the library in conflict resolution are also discussed. The paper concludes by proffering suggestions that will help in tackling the multifarious inhibitions affecting Nigeria's efforts at achieving national integration and security.
